Director of People Services

Melanie Lucas is the Director of People Services for both Jonathan Rose Companies and Rose Community Management.  Melanie was eager to bring her experience and creative ideas when she joined the team in July, 2016.  Melanie is a highly driven, energetic, knowledgeable, and experienced professional with proven success in the human resources field.  Some of Melanie’s main responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of human resources management, policies, practices, and operations for the organization.  She is the workforce strategist, organizational and performance conductor, HR service delivery owner, compliance and governance regulator, coach and advisor to the senior leadership team, and an expert on executive compensation and succession planning.  In addition, Melanie oversees functions such as communications, office management, public relations, safety, security, and the overall culture of the company.

Prior to joining Jonathan Rose Companies, Melanie was the Vice President of Human Resources for Forest City Realty Trust specializing in Talent Management and Business Partner relationships.  This was a newly created position leading the team of HR Business Partners and talent management staff including recruiting, talent development, succession planning, and employee engagement.  Melanie was a key contributor in companywide strategic initiatives including zero-based budget project and organizational restructuring.  Her primary responsibility was to design and implement policies and procedures for a companywide reduction in force.  Melanie was a member of a four-person team that redesigned the Human Resources department, which resulted in a 10% cost reduction while improving service delivery.  She also developed a new organizational structure integrating talent development, recruiting and diversity initiatives designed to increase company and leadership focus on human capital management as a “value creator”.

Before becoming the Vice President of Human Resources, Melanie was the Director of Human Resources for eight years, and for four years prior she was the manager of Human Resources.  In the role of Director of Human Resources, Melanie led the team of HR Business Partners for the largest business units, residential and commercial with more than 2,000 people and assets of $5 billion. She reported to the Executive Vice President of Human Resources and supported a diverse client group from executive leadership through hourly operations across 28 states and the District of Columbia.

Melanie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Health Systems Management from Daemen College in Amherst, New York.  Melanie graduated with Honors and was on the Dean’s list, while working full-time.  She holds an MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, and was in the MBA Executive Management program.  Melanie has participated in many continuing education courses to increase her knowledge in the management, leading and coaching functions.  She is also a member of the SHRM Society for Human Resource Management.
